April and May are the months when Kampala experiences alot of rain this is the time when events get interrupted. Which is why Chrishma Tents now has the most reliable tents during heavy rainfall.

If you’re planning a wedding, or an event the between the months March-May or Sept-Nov, you’re gambling with Kampala weather. UNMA says we get 200mm+ of rain. That’s enough to turn Bweyogerere into a swamp.

Most tent suppliers will sell you “waterproof canvas” and disappear. Then your 100 seater tent becomes a 100 seater swimming pool.

The 3 Lies Kampala Tent Suppliers Tell You

Lie #1: "Canvas is waterproof"

Truth: Canvas is water-RESISTANT for 20 minutes. Then it soaks like a sponge. Pour a jerrycan on it and watch. We tested 5 suppliers in Kireka. All failed.

What works: 650gsm PVC with heat-welded seams. Zero stitches = zero leaks. This is what we use for exhibition tents and wedding tents.

Lie #2: "You don't need flooring"

Truth: 80% of water comes UNDER the walls, not through the roof. Grass + rain = mud river inside your tent.

What works: 6-inch raised wooden pallets + PVC skirt that extends 1ft outside.

Lie #3: "Any pegs will hold"

Truth: Kampala storms hit 45km/h winds. 30cm pegs rip out of wet ground.

What works: 1-meter steel pegs + cross-strapping. 16 pegs minimum for 100 seater tents. Non-negotiable.

The Chrishma Rain-Proof Checklist

This is what we do for every wedding tent hire in Kampala rainy season. Steal it. Make your supplier sign it.

Best That Survives Bad Weather:

Material: 650gsm PVC, not canvas. Ask to see the spec sheet.
Seams: Heat-welded, not stitched. Stitches leak. Always.
Flooring: Raised 4-6 inches. Pallets or wood, not carpet on grass.
Drainage: Trench dug around tent + PVC skirt. Redirects water away.
Pegs: 1-meter steel. Count them. 16+ for 100 seater.
Sidewalls: Full-length to ground with zipper covers. Wind drives rain sideways.
Rain test: Will they spray it with a hose for 5 mins before you accept? We do.

Truth Bomb: When to Just Book a Hall

If UNMA predicts 50mm+ rain AND your venue floods like Bwaise or Natete, we’ll tell you to book a hall. A tent is not a submarine. We’ve refunded 3 clients in 2025 because their safety > our profit. Any supplier who says “tents work anywhere” is lying.
